May + Watkins created these sculptures to provide seating and an oasis of shade for pedestrian and bicycle travelers.
We loosely based our forms on oak leaf imagery, and then abstracted the design to create a comforting sculpture that shelters visitors from the elements and provides a place to rest.
There is a leaf partition that divides the bench of one of the sculptures. Each side varies in color and shape, provides an inviting experience and an invitation to explore this ‘bench’ as art.
This bench is built with stainless steel materials and aluminum plate which do not rust. The surface has been powder coated with an UV barrier to protect it from the sun.
Services Provided
May+Watkins created the sketches, models, plans, elevations and construction drawings. The work was fabricated in-house and installed by our team on site. We worked with the Public Art team and landscape architect throughout to effectively site the work.
