Sculpture Benches & Bike Racks
5 Benches ranging from 6-10’h x 7-11’l
2019
May+Watkins created five sculpture benches, sited along an urban pedestrian path, that reflect the agricultural products and also the railroad, both of which were critical to the growth of Lewisville. None of the sculpture benches are literal translations, rather they take a leaf or cotton boll or rail tie motif and use it as a starting point to develop compelling form.
Each sculpture seats 4-6 people. Two of the sculptures include a bike rack element.
Services Provided
Extensive work with the Community Arts Board to develop the works, narrative statements, concept sketches, sketch models and final models, plans, elevations, construction drawings, fabrication and installation.
“…Their thoughtful approach in researching our City’s history and engaging with the community to allow their input on the themes and design elements of the benches was greatly appreciated and gives the works even deeper meaning to many residents…”Denise Helbing
Arts Center Manager, City of Lewisville
