May + Watkins Design worked with the Children’s Museum of Manhattan on a series of exhibits from 1993 to 1997. Tar Beach was the second of these exhibits.

This interactive exhibit was based on Tar Beach by Faith Ringgold. It featured three areas, the Rooftop, the Artist’s Studio, and Where Would I Go if I Could Fly. The exhibit incorporated more than 20 activities.
