The Old Stone House was originally built in 1699 by the Vechte family, 200 feet from its current location. This prosperous family farm was the site of some of the most intense fighting of the Battle of Brooklyn, the largest battle of the American Revolution, on August 27, 1776. American and British forces faced off in a bloody clash, followed by seven years of British occupation. In the months before – and the years after the battle – Brooklynites had to make hard choices as they came face to face with war. This exhibit tells the story of what happened in the Brooklyn area during this fateful period.
“The Old Stone House is developing an interpretive exhibit with Carol and Tim that will open in 2015. Their models, drawings and support materials have been key to our fundraising efforts, and their unique perspective is actively bringing the story of our site to life.”Kim Maier
